Host Guidelines for Topics in Data Viz

Before The Discussion Starts
- Pick a topic from the potential topics list or come up with your own question.
- Get DVS board member to sign off (just to make sure it’s not something we’ve done recently and it’s in line with overall goals)
- On Monday, announce it in the #-topics-in-data-viz Slack channel and tweet (or have us tweet) it.
During The 2 Weeks Of Discussion
- Jump in the Slack discussion to help encourage engagement and keep the discussion on track
- Polls within Slack have been an effective way to continue engagement and discussion
- Keep track of good comments and general trends that happen
2 Weeks After Discussion Ends
- Write up the general trends and highlight any particularly great comments
- Don’t just highlight the loudest member in the discussion, look for new voices who are contributing.
- Get permission from people if you want to use a quote from them in the medium write-up. Using quotes is encouraged, we just want to get permission.
- Add the piece to Data Visualization Society Medium and allow time for editing
- Publish and promote!
